Darcy Turenne in Rolling Stone
The August issue of Rolling Stone magazine highlighted Darcy Turenne's Cycling career. Here's what it had to say:

Darcy Turenne was a member of the Canadian national team at 17 and retired from downhill racing at 21 as one of the best female mountain bikers on the planet – but then the 24-year-old's clock has always run a little fast. Born into the back yard of progressive mountain biking, British Columbia, Turenne felt limited by racing and made the transition to the boys-only world of free riding, which involves throwing oneself off rocks, dirt mounds, cliffs. Turenne proved to be so good that she was hired to host Ride Guide, a cable-TV show available in 60 million households a week in 60 countries. She's now shooting her second season in locales around the world, proving that women can take on the gnarliest terrain parks. “My job is to push the sport for women where it hasn't gone before,” she says, “to go bigger and harder than it ever has.” The valedictorian of her high school class, Turenne got her undergraduate degree in both geography and environmental studies while traversing the globe on her bike. She hopes to one day get her PH.D. “I'm a bit of a nerd,” she says. “I enjoyed school, and I think one day I'll Go Back. But I have to finish throwing myself off cliffs first.”

Shore 1 Review on whistlermountainbike.com
The Shore series from Norco has a long and stored history. It has gone through many changes over the years and 2008 wasn’t an exception. For 2008 the Shore series got a complete make over. New hydroformed tubes, new forged 1.5 head tube, decreased standover height and a new forged yoke are the meat of the makeover list.

Hello Darcy: Crankworx After Dark
People dressed in outrageous costumes surround me as I negotiate my way through shoulder-to-shoulder crowds. My mouth feels like I just swallowed a cup of kitty litter and I am still having the sweats from last night's shenanigans. 'Am I in Vegas?' I think to myself as I gaze at a group of women wearing bridal veils and t-shirts covered in jiffy marker. I consequently get the backs of my heels stepped on for walking too slow. Nope, I'm not in Vegas - this is another Crankworx Whistler.

Flying Fionn takes on Bromont in Quebec
This past weekend the World Cup family gathered at Bromont in Quebec, Canada for the 5th stop on the world cup tour.

They were celebrating 20 years of mountain biking on the mountain this year so it was great to have the world cup re visit the venue that had hosted the Grundig World Cups for many years in the past. I myself had never raced an international event at Bromont before, but when I was 15 or so I remember watching the event on Euro sport and thinking to myself that I would love to ride there. 10 years on and that dream was reality…

NORCO Bikes and Riders at Olympics
Norco prides itself on being the official bike sponsor and long term
supporter of team Symmetrics. As Canada's premiere road race team Synnetrics has triumphed both nationally and internationally. Over the past 5 years, the team's ultimate goal was fielding riders to represent Canada at the Olympics in Beijing. We are proud to congratulate both Svein Tuft and Zach Bell who have together been the first ever Norco riders to compete in the Olympic Games.

After riding a supporting role in the road race Tuft then went on to
compete in the individual time trial event where he finished an impressive 7th place with a time of one hour, four minutes, 39 seconds.

Congratulations to Svein Tuft and Zach Bell along with the entire Team Canada Cycling team.

The Good and the Bad, It's a Bumpy Road
Take the bad with the good...

First, the bad -- Being on the injured list. As you all know, if you ride enough and like to play hard, sooner or later you are going to end up on the ground. I’m no exception to that rule. Normally (touch wood here) I’m pretty lucky at picking myself up, dusting off, laughing about the dumb move I just tried, and getting back to riding.

A few weeks back, a second or two of brainfade on Dirt Merchant left me laying on the ground with a separated shoulder and couple of cracked ribs. Now, ten days later I still can’t sleep on my back, front or left side, and have trouble breathing deep, sneezing or making any quick movements. I’m on the mend now though… this morning was the first time in close to 2 weeks that I was able to take my pup out for her morning ride. I’ve kept a positive spin on it all, thinking back on all the hours I have been able to ride healthy, you just have to take the bad with the good. I’ll be back… there is a wicked left line step-up calling my name out there.

Also... no matter how bad you think you have it, there is always someone worse off. While I’m licking my wounds there was another fellow in there with 2 broken wrists and a broken collarbone. Man, what I am complaining about! I’m golden compared to his issues.

And the good? Well, there has been LOTS of good over the past month. By now you have probably seen some of the 2009 bikes on line. Norco's 2009 International Distributors and Media Product launch was recently up in Whistler and even as close as I am to the pulse, the bikes look awesome. Keep an eye out for the 2009 website to be launched at the end of August.

With Crankworx starting next week, team riders in town, new bikes to show off in a world class resort like Whistler, again, how great is that. Oh yeah, combine all that cool stuff with the fact that summer might have finally shown up, and it isn’t pouring rain and cold and really I’ve got nothing to complain about! Nothing at all…

So, in this busy world, my small words of wisdom (if I have any at all) would be to take the bad with the good and keep on moving forward. Enjoy every moment you spend on two wheels, as it isn’t till you are sidelined that you realize how great those times are. Ride your bike – every day if you can!

As always, happy trails.

Darcy Turenne: Her Life as a Pro Rider
Darcy Turenne seems to have something figured out in the industry of ours as she is one of the few successful riders making it as a freerider and she's a woman in a sport heavily dominated by men. Blue Mountain VPS-Fest Report
Nested away in Collingwood, Ontario, Blue Mountain hosted the 2008 Norco VPS Fest that took place on July 12th.

Started in 2003, VPS fest was created to give back to the Norco consumers and give everyone excuse to ride together. VPS has a lot to offer as they give away tons of prizes, free mechanics, as well as the opportunity to ride with the pro’s.

Inside we’ll tell you more about how the event went down and what you can expect if you attend a VPS fest event.

The Blue Mountain VPS Fest took place on Saturday, July 12th. The weather couldn’t have been much better even though there was a chance of thunderstorms they never transpired.

Blue Mountain is ran by Intrawest and their facilities are top notch. The lift system they have in place is fast and their bike trays held the bikes safely without touching other bikes. The hill itself doesn’t have a ton of elevation but they do a nice job at utilizing their terrain effectively. More trails will be opened later as revisions are made but the current open trails proved to be more than enjoyable enough for a day’s riding.

The Norco crew set off early in the morning to begin setting up various tents, booths, and mechanics areas. There was a trials show setup for pro Norco trials rider, Dylan Korba, in the middle of the village for all the spectators to enjoy.
